A scorching Barryfornia Summer Edition

Barryfornia Summer Edition had more awesome Volkswagens on display its second Barry based show. 28.08.22

After the success of the Spring edition of Barryfornia, I was looking forward to seeing what would be on display for their Summer edition show, and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. With the August show again delivering a great mix of air-cooled and more modern Volkswagen finery. Here are some of the photo’s taken on the day at the second Barryfornia event hosted by the awesome Rothfink Industries.

The summer edition was again blessed with some hot Barryfornia weather to pull in the crowds and highlight some seriously well kept and customised Volkswagens as well as some other awesome vintage vehicles. Bikes, scooters, Dodge, American Customs, BMW, Split-Screens, Buses, Type 2, Beetles, Jetta’s, Golfs, Polos, and Transporters, were among the many vehicles making up the show, with some great food stalls, shops and a live DJ providing the soundtrack to the day on the sun drenched Barry beach front.

Like the very first show back in May this year, there was a big turn out for the summer show, with a spell of hot weather this helped swell the crowds who for some, were simply visiting the beach but then were also able to enjoy the show, as well as the many loyal members who make up the VW scene and the Rothfink brand, all coming together for a great free show with an awesome atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Some of my particular favourites on the day would again have to be some of the mint split-screens and nice rustic bay window vans. There was a fantastic California edition Beetle cabriolet, as well as an immaculate Jetta 16V in red. It was great to be surrounded with Volkswagens again by visiting this show. Having owned seven VW’s in my time as well as picking up a VW Transporter this year to add to the collection, it has definitely sparked my interest again, and I will try to get to more shows and events during the upcoming 2023 season.

With lots of stunning vehicles on display again for this show, Photography wise, I captured some photos and video on my iPhone 13 Pro, but all of these featured here were taken on my Canon R6 coupled with the 70-300mm f4-5.6 L IS USM Series lens. This compact L lens allowed to zoom in to a decent level when required but to also capture full cars at the widest setting of 70mm. With a decent close up ability, I managed to get some nice detail shots and the lens produced some nice bokeh whilst isolating these subjects. I picked this lens up last year from Carmarthen Cameras who offer a great service and are also the largest camera shop in Wales, check them out online or if you are heading West, pop into their fantastic and unique store which is housed in a historical chapel. The sun was shining again so high contrast did play an issue on the day with the directly overhead light source, but overall I was pretty happy with the results I managed to capture.

After the successes of the first two Barryfornia events in 2022, I can’t wait for the next installment, Hopefully roll on Autumn / Winter edition. Check out their website links below:
